Protecting our environment is everyone’s job, and it might be the most important one we have. From Earth Month to Clean Air Month, there are numerous opportunities throughout the year to help protect the only planet we’ve got. There’s never been a better or more important time to support nonprofits that support environmental sustainability and combat climate change.

How your company can celebrate Earth Month & Day

The following initiatives were curated by our team of social impact experts that execute thoughtful social impact efforts for our customers every day. Some of these initiatives are easy enough to accomplish internally, but for others, you will need to lean on a social impact program or team.

Don’t have a social impact program or team? Learn more about Percent Pledge powered customized social impact programs, a single source for donations, volunteering, charity vetting, & impact reports.

[1] Donations

Our Percent Pledge Environment Cause Portfolio contains five highly-regarded, thoroughly vetted nonprofits that help take the guesswork out of choosing the right organization for your company and employees to donate to and partner with.

Clean Air Task Force

The Clean Air Task Force is pushing the change in technologies and policies needed to get to a zero-emissions, high-energy planet at an affordable cost. With 25 years of globally recognized expertise on clean air policy and a fierce commitment to fully exploring all potential solutions, CATF is an environmental advocacy group with the bold ideas needed to solve the climate crisis.

re:wild

re:wild’s mission is to protect and restore the wild to build a thriving Earth where all life flourishes. They work with Indigenous Peoples, communities, NGOs, and governments to conserve almost 30 million acres of critical habitat, home to over 1,000 threatened species.

Captain Planet Foundation

For over 30 years, the Captain Planet Foundation has provided grants, innovative tools, and powerful strategies to educators and young people to help tackle environmental harm. Captain Planet invests in high-quality, solution-based programs that empower youth to become environmental stewards and global change-makers.

One Tree Planted

One Tree Planted is on a mission to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees. Planting trees helps to rebuild forests after fires and floods, provide jobs for social impact, and restore biodiversity. One Tree’s reforestation projects span the globe and are done in partnership with local communities and knowledgeable experts to create a positive impact on nature, people, and wildlife.

Plastic Oceans

Plastic Oceans is a U.S. based, global nonprofit dedicated to ending plastic pollution and fostering sustainable communities. Plastic Oceans aims to change consumer behavior, corporate practice and public policy, with the goal of creating solutions that lead to a healthier planet and society.

Percent Pledge allows all companies and employees to donate to these nonprofits simultaneously through its Workplace Giving Platform.

[2] Volunteering

Time is the most valuable commodity, and volunteering your organization’s time while inspiring your employees to do the same, is one of the greatest gifts you can give. Volunteering is the perfect team-building event and can have a positive impact on your employees and your organization.

Battle climate change

Invite your employees to attend a Climate Reality Project education session tailored to your organization. Presentations are held virtually and led by CRT volunteers. They feature information about climate science and the impacts of climate change. The presentations highlight current solutions, including advancements in renewable energy, smart climate policy, and more.

Plant a tree

Assemble a team of employees to participate in a tree-planting project with TreePeople. They'll lead your team and provide all the necessary tools and leadership support for a safe and successful experience that gives back on all levels.

Protect our oceans

Invite employees to an eye-opening film screening from Plastic Oceans. Their films and digital content inform, inspire, and incite action to affect change by focusing on the planet’s health and conservation and promoting a global movement to rethink plastic. Its projects, partnerships, and initiatives serve to change thinking and shift behavior by engaging and inspiring audiences.

A single volunteer event takes 20-30 hours to plan and execute. Learn how Percent Pledge saves your company that time by organizing customized volunteer events.

[3] Other ways to support the environment

Inspire your employees to get involved to spread support. No gesture is too small.

Hit the road

Leave the cars in the garage and organize an employee ride your bike to work day. And when they arrive, have some breakfast and coffee waiting to greet and reward them for doing something great for the planet.

Do what comes easy

If all you do is recycle, you’re already doing a lot. Create and promote an office recycling program and hold a recycling competition to kick it off.

Let’s get cleaning

Clean a beach. Clean a park. Do something good for the environment right in your backyard. Encourage your employees to spend a morning within their community. Contact your local park district for volunteer opportunities.
